Week of May 3, 2015

I have been noticing the packets for registration for the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) on tables in the narthex. This Conference is a great opportunity for our youth (high school age). You will experience great speakers, wonderful music, good liturgies, and youth from all over our country. The Conference is in Indianapolis this year (Nov. 19-22). I encourage you to pick up a packet and talk it over with your parents.

I hope you have noticed the new Paschal Candle stand in the sanctuary. Our other stand was tilting and even though we made efforts to straighten it, we had no success. I am grateful to our quilting group. They gave us the money for our new stand. Thank you.

Thanks to all of you who have returned your pledge cards. The support you give your parish in time, talent and treasure is much appreciated. If you have not returned your pledge card yet, there are copies in the narthex.

In today’s Gospel Jesus tells us, “I am the vine, you are the branches.” Without Jesus we can do nothing. But the vine also needs the branches – it is the branches that produce the fruit. That means that Christ also needs us. Vine and branches need each other. Together they form a unity. From this we can see how great the trust he has placed in us.

Christ depends on us to produce fruit in the world. What was the fruit you produced last week? How did Christ work through you? How does Christ need to work through you in the coming week?
