Week of September 27, 2015

Every year we give an accounting of our financial situation at Holy Spirit Parish and you will find it in this week’s bulletin. Our fiscal year ran from July 1, 2014 – June 30, 2015. As we have done the past few years, we are giving you figures from the last fiscal year and the year before that. You will also see what our budget is for 2015/16.

There are a few things I would like to bring to your attention.

For the second year in a row our Contribution Income and Mortgage Reduction is down. Fortunately we were able to keep our expenses down from the previous year. Our net income for the year was a negative $2,595. The contribution income budget for 2015/16 shows a modest increase over last year’s budget.

As of 7/1/15 our debt stands at $5,566,289. This year we were able to pay $250,754 on the principal. We plan to pay $252,000 in 2015/16. As we continue to pay on the principal our interest has decreased. When interest rates begin to increase that will affect our interest payment.

This year we hired Brigeete Kurtenbach to work on developing our youth ministry. Take a look at the bulletin and see the page on “Impact”. It lists things happening for our high school youth from September through May. One of her biggest accomplishments in her brief time as our youth minister was getting your pastor to go to the Steubenville Conference with our youth this summer. It was a great experience and I highly recommend it for our youth. Brigeete will also be coordinating the program for our Junior High.

Ann Hayles has moved to part time, continuing to direct the RCIA process, doing some adult faith formation, and working with parents preparing their children for first Reconciliation and first Communion.

We are looking at some repairs for the coming year:

There is some concrete repair that needs to be done on the north side of church and in front of the church. The Knights of Columbus are paying for this repair from proceeds made from the golf tournament.

We are looking at repairs in the parking lot. These repairs will take place over the next few years. We will give you more details as we learn exactly what needs to be done.

We are also looking at improving the insulation in certain parts of the building.

Every other year we have an auction that helps us do needed repairs. We need someone who would be willing to head up the auction for this year. There are people willing to help with it, but we need someone to be our leader. If you are willing to take this on, call the parish office at 816-537-6990 and let me know.

We also contribute to the wider community: collecting food for Social Services, second collections for the wider church, backpacks for preschool children to name a few. We need to take care of our church (people and building) and we also need to take care of those in need. Thank you for all that you do to make this happen.
