This Wednesday, April 26th, our diocese is having its first annual day of prayer for victims and survivors of child sexual abuse, particularly those abused by someone in the Catholic Church. We pray along with their families, friends, and our entire community. At the morning mass that day we will pray for continued healing and reconciliation of those who have suffered this abuse. In our diocese, we continue to dedicate ourselves to prevention efforts and safety education for children and adults. I encourage you to say the prayer below or some other prayer on Wednesday.
A PRAYER FOR HEALING VICTIMS OF ABUSE
Holy Spirit, comforter of hearts, heal your people’s wounds and transform brokenness into wholeness.
Grant us the courage and wisdom, humility and grace, to act with justice.
Breathe wisdom into our prayers and labors.
Grant that all harmed by abuse may find peace in justice.
We ask this through Christ, our Lord.
Beginning this Saturday, April 22nd, at the 5:00 o’clock mass and next weekend at all of the masses our children will be receiving Holy Communion for the first time. The Eucharist keeps us rooted in who we are as Catholics. We remember the sacrifice Christ made for us and in receiving this Holy Communion we seek the strength to be Christ for others.
Pastoral Council: This week and over the next several weeks there will be a series of short articles on facts about refugees and our Church’s teaching about this issue. I encourage you to take time to read them.
